A sick dog unable to move is taken on a final ride through town and surprisingly recovers

When Joey Maxwell and his wife first saw Maverick at a  shelter, the dog was nothing but skin and bones. They adopted him, and Maverick quickly became a beloved member of their family, bringing them joy for six wonderful years.

However, a few years ago, Maverick was diagnosed with lymphoma. Maxwell did everything he could to help his four-legged friend fight the disease. The first round of chemotherapy was successful, but two months ago, the cancer returned, leaving Maverick unable to move.

Determined to make Maverick’s final days as happy as possible, Maxwell decided to take him on wagon rides. Initially, this simple act of kindness seemed to have a profound positive impact on Maverick’s health and spirit.

Maxwell told CBS News that when they take Maverick out, “he howls at everyone that walks by until they pet him because he thinks the whole world is there to love on him.”

It turns out he might be right. Maxwell and Maverick have received an outpouring of love and support from their community. After sharing Maverick’s story, Maxwell was given a 50% discount on a wagon, and both he and the Lowe’s cashier were moved to tears. Now, Maverick is a local celebrity, with people stopping to show their affection.

Maverick loves his wagon rides, and they seem to be doing him a world of good. He is gaining strength every day.

“We’re in a good position because we understand how much Mav means to so many other people right now, and we understand that he has experienced every bit of that in return,” says Maxwell.

Maverick is feeling the positive energy. He can now sit up by himself and continues to gain strength each day.
